MID 90s

Mid90s tells a clear-eyed yet nostalgic coming-of-age tale that might mark the start of an auspicious new career for debuting writer-director Jonah Hill”. It has been awarded one of the 10 Independent Films by the American National Board of Reviews and nominated for various awards. According to EmpireOnline “Jonah Hill’s directorial debut, mid90s, is a beaut” with a “ loosely plotted, character-driven piece that documents the rites of passage and rituals of teenage LA life circa 1995“, reminiscent of early Scorcese with its “lo-fi veracity”. In true retro style the film has been shot entirely on 16mm film.

The film also has a great soundtrack. The original score has been crafted by
Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross (who also worked together and won an Oscar for their work on the Social Network). The music evokes the era including 90’s greats like The Pixies, Morrissey, Nirvana as well as many excellent 90s hip hop acts (Wu-Tang Clan, Del the Funky Homosapien, etc).

Below is the official trailer for the film – please note it does contain swearing!

To keep in the spirit of the film and its soundtrack, the night will continue after the film in the bar as Bristol’s Golden Lion Hip Hop Jam group lead us into the night. The live Hip Hop will bring a groove heavy band along with some prime cut MCs.

Free Movement Skateboarding work in Athens empowering both the local and refugee population through skateboarding. They promote “inclusivity, humanity and friendship on and off the board”. We are really pleased to be able to show their short documentary before mid90s, as well as show some of their lino cut art work in the bar as part of a mini-exhibition.

The Clevedon Skate Project team will be hosting the night with the Curzon. Proceeds from the Ticket Sales will go to the Curzon and there will be opportunities to donate to the Clevedon Skate Project to support the development of our own Skatepark and Pump Track in Clevedon.

Clevedon Skate Project are looking for funding to help develop our own Skate Park and Pump Track as well providing activities aimed at all ages in Clevedon such as skate training. If you would like to support us please get in touch (email paul@clevedonskateproject.com) or complete the contact form.
